Rizia Moneiria, attended University in or around Rio de Janerio by 1990. Parents at that time paid the costs and she began her modeling career. She met Guy Laliberté in 1990 while he was on vacation. Together they went to Canada, and her parents cut off any funding due to the move. Her father did not approve of her dating, and subsequently living with Guy due to the age difference and a break from their traditions. During the next 10 years, she gave birth to three children. Still able to maintain her pre-baby shape she continued to work from time to time as well. In 2000 the happy couple split. At the time of the split they were not formally married, as Laliberté does not believe in the formal marriage process. According to Quebec laws, they were recognized as a common law marriage due to the length of co-habitation and the birth of their children.
When the separation occurred, a home was purchased for 2.4 million dollars, and Rizia Moneiria retained custody of their children. Guy became obligated to pay tutoring, cook, nanny care, education, and child support. Rizia Moneiria provided the loving nurturing home her children needed.
In 2004 she met and dated Herbert Black, business man from Québec that has been known to successfully sue major companies when he has been wronged. Recently he has become more active in her life once again, as he is paying the lawyer’s fees for Rizia Moneiria’s law suit and constitutional challenge against Guy Laliberté. Her challenge is suing for spousal support, which she would be getting had they been married formally. By Canadian Law, common law marriages absolve without due support for the spouse with the lesser income. When Rizia filed for the spousal support, backed up by Herbert Black, she chose to challenge the constitution. Her pursuit is ongoing, and has a gag order attached to it. With the gag order in place, everyone involved is very quiet about the details. The little bit that we have been able to glean indicates that there is a lot to be concerned with, and this case will most likely see the inside of the Canadian Supreme Court.
